Anatomy

The Department of Anatomy at IIMSR (Integral Institute of Medical Sciences & Research), Integral University, Lucknow forms the cornerstone of medical education, focusing on the study of the structure of the human body at gross, microscopic, and developmental levels. The scope of the subject includes Gross Anatomy, Histology, Embryology, Neuroanatomy, and Radiological Anatomy, enabling students to understand the organization and function of the human body in health and disease.

In the MBBS curriculum, Anatomy is primarily taught during the First Professional Year (Phase I), where students acquire essential knowledge through lectures, dissection, practical sessions, and integrated teaching approaches. With an intake of 200 undergraduate students per batch and a faculty strength of 10, the department offers a robust academic environment.

The clinical relevance of Anatomy is immense, as it provides the basis for understanding physical examination, surgical procedures, radiological interpretation, and diagnosis of various medical conditions. A strong anatomical foundation is crucial for all clinical specialties, including surgery, radiology, orthopaedics, and medicine.

The department is equipped with well-maintained dissection halls, histology laboratories with 75 microscopes and digital slides, an anatomy museum housing 166 specimens and 160 models, embryology models, and audio-visual teaching aids. These facilities enhance hands-on learning and conceptual clarity.

The research focus of the department includes anatomical variations, clinical anatomy, histological studies, medical education research, and cytogenetics. Faculty members actively engage in interdisciplinary research and contribute to scientific advancement through publications in national and international indexed journals.
